0-π oscillations in nanostructured Nb/Fe/Nb Josephson junctions

چکیده
The physics of the π phase shift in ferromagnetic Josephson junctions enables a range of applications for spin-electronic devices and quantum computing. We investigate transitions from “0” to “π” states in Nb/Fe/Nb Josephson junctions by varying the Fe barrier thickness from 0.5 nm to 5.5 nm. From magnetic measurements we estimate for Fe a magnetic dead layer of about 1.1 nm. By fitting the characteristic voltage oscillations with existing theoretical models we extrapolate an exchange energy of 256 meV, a Fermi velocity of 1.98×10 m/s and an electron mean free path of 6.2 nm, in agreement with other reported values.

Transport properties of Nb/PdNi bilayers and Nb/PdNi/Nb Josephson junctions
The superconducting proximity effect was examined in both Nb/PdNi (SF) bilayer films and Nb/PdNi/Nb (SFS) Josephson junctions. In Nb/PdNi bilayer films, nonmonotonic behavior of Tc was observed as a function of PdNi thickness dF. The effective exchange energy Eex extracted from the data was about 13 meV. In Nb/PdNi/Nb (SFS) Josephson junctions, the existence of a crossover between the 0 state a...

It is demonstrated that in the diffusive superconductor-ferromagnetsuperconductor (S/F/S) junctions the current-phase relation is practically sinusoidal everywhere except in a narrow region near the 0−π transition. In this region the second harmonic dominates the scenario of the 0 − π transition. We predict a first order transition for the S/F/S junctions with a homogeneous F barrier. However, ...
متن کاملArea-dependence of spin-triplet supercurrent in ferromagnetic Josephson junctions
Josephson junctions containing multiple ferromagnetic layers can carry spin-triplet supercurrent under certain conditions. Large-area junctions containing multiple domains are expected to have a random distribution of 0 or π coupling across the junction surface, whereas magnetized samples should have uniquely π coupling everywhere. We have measured the area-dependence of the critical current in...
متن کاملCurrent-induced SQUID behavior of superconducting Nb nano-rings
The critical temperature in a superconducting ring changes periodically with the magnetic flux threading it, giving rise to the well-known Little-Parks magnetoresistance oscillations. Periodic changes of the critical current in a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID), consisting of two Josephson junctions in a ring, lead to a different type of magnetoresistance oscillations utiliz...

We present a technology based on Nb/NbxSi1−x/Nb junctions, with barriers near the metal-insulator transition, for applications in superconducting electronics (SCE) as an alternative to Nb/AlOx/Nb tunnel junctions. Josephson junctions with co-sputtered amorphous Nb-Si barriers can be made with a wide variety of electrical properties: critical current density (Jc), capacitance (C), and normal res...
